BCCA Archive: Bonnington Café in the 1990s

BCCAs archival work continues in partnership with Phd researcher Xiuzheng Li of the UCL, Bartlett School of Architecture (https://www.ucl.ac.uk/bartlett/architecture/).

If you have any potential archival material including photographs, objects, videos, audio, textual or other data that documents the story of BCAAs history – or if you are aware of anyone that might be interested in sharing personal memories and recollections, please contact the Archive team at BCCA_Archive@outlook.com

The Archive is continually growing to reveal fresh and rich content that will build into a unique resource that will be available to all BCCA members. The Archive will also be used to support ongoing funding bids towards the upkeep, improvement and sustainability of our historic building as a local community oasis, meeting and eating place and intergenerational wellbeing resource.

A BCCA Archive Exhibition and associated Community Events at BCCA Centre and Community Café Gallery are proposed during May 2023. (dates to be confirmed) Any suggestions for content, events, workshops or items of memorabilia toward this event are welcome as are Volunteers who might assist in any way.

A BLOOMing Success

For those who did not find opportunity to meet and co-create with the Fine Arts Masters degree students from the University of East London during their Community Arts Workshop at Bonnington Cafe, our images and these words below might help capture some of the warm and vibrant energy and spirit of the Workshop that included painting, sculpture, music, poetry, spoken word and jazz piano.

Attracting participation from local people and passing creative adventurers, all who attended agreed that the event was a memorable and significant success for the students toward their experiential professional development and for participants who participated in the open, warm and welcoming creative atmosphere that produced such glorious BLOOM.

‘Love and light emit from participants at the Bonnington Café Gallery during a few fantastic days of blooming Creativity – learnt so much!! Grew so much’ Namaste🙏🏼

‘I felt like I belong’

‘It has been an inspiration’

‘It was a pleasure to radiate what bonnington is as place’

‘Bloom was a fun and relaxing environment that encouraged the engagement of different art forms. I joined the communal tree making day and it was a lovely messy hands-on experience with the chance to meet some fantastic artists and Vauxhall residents. The poetry day was also greatly enjoyed with no pressure to be overly serious but instead a playful look at poetry and the writing of communal poems that was inclusive of all abilities from novices with no experience to keen poets’

A return Exhibition/Event to share works achieved by participants during the Workshop is proposed for later this year at the Bonnington Café Gallery.

  • Thank you to Dr Mikey Georgeson, Artist and senior lecturer UEL who encouraged his students to undertake the workshop after a presentation of Participatory Community Arts and Music at ELU by William Longden, BCCA founding Trustee. Contact: www.mikeygeorgeson.com

Cranio-Sacral Therapy with Ted McNamara

Since September 2020 I have been training in Cranio-Sacral Therapy (CST). My course finishes in September 2023. Toward my practical training I need to submit a summary for evaluation of a minimum 170 individual treatments. Some of these sessions I am offering without payment to me at The Bonnington Centre, however a donation to the Centre will be gratefully accepted to cover minimal room hire cost.

Cranio-Sacral Therapy is a very gentle yet powerful form of treatment that engages with the intelligent healing forces within the body in order to enable wholesome, meaningful integration of the bodies psycho-physical mechanism. Treatment can enhance health in any circumstance – from new born babies to the elderly, from birth patterns, injury, illness, severe trauma, and can address the many stresses and strains of life, both physical and emotional, sometimes resolving issues that are not helped by other means.

My treatments are offered as an integral part of my Cranial-Sacral training. They are safe, respectful, governed by strict professional ethics and in strictest confidence.

You are welcome to contact me for further information and booking. Ted McNamara: mobile: +44(0)7563164988 email: placelore@gmail.com
