Tuesday 23rd of July
Roots & Shoots Community Lunches
Roots and Shoots is an independent, award-winning educational and environmental charity based in Kennington, South London. From a derelict site in 1982, it has grown to become a well-established and respected vocational training organisation with biodiverse wildlife gardens, offering a safe haven for both people and nature to flourish. We provide accessible and positive vocational and educational opportunities for young Londoners with special educational needs, empowering them to develop new skills, build confidence and gain employment experience to help them reach their potential and prepare for the world of work.
Roots and Shoots internship programme is serving community meals to local residents at the Bonnington Cafe on Tuesdays 11-2PM.
Their goal is to provide a practical, hands-on catering experience for neurodiverse students from Roots and Shoots where they will assist a chef in preparation of healthy, vegetarian lunches for local residents in a community cafe.
Lunch is served on “pay forward” principles and the payment will be a donation- whatever the customer is able to afford. For those in difficult financial situations the meals will be completely free of charge- no questions asked.

Mayall
By Mayall comes to Bonnington for the second time this August. Begun by Alice-Mae Mayall in 2020, By Mayall started delivering buns by hand in North London each Sunday during lockdown. Due to popular demand the menu (and team of delivery riders) then expanded to include ‘Friday Pie Day’ which delivered hot pies direct to the doorstep every week.
This will be the second time that the pies won’t be coming to you but instead we invite you to come to the pies! What to expect: seasonal vegetarian/vegan pies, British ingredients, homemade pastry, tasty sides & sweet treats all lovingly made in North London.

Hind Danoun
Hind is from Syria and came here six years ago. She studied philosophy in Syria and wanted to find a new home. It was hard for her to feel like she belonged in a different country. She thought about how to create a place that felt like home. Hind decided to use cooking to show her culture. She started making her mom’s recipes and really liked cooking. She added her own ideas and then started her own business called Utopia.

Two Dogs
Newish to the Bonnington Café are Twodogs’ Jen and Vic, who are bringing US vegetarian comfort food with a British accent.
It’s all the food you’ve heard about from America and the local, regional things you might not have. Cooked from scratch using seasonal British ingredients. Incorporating elements of British cuisine. Their food is fun, tasty and gives respect to both nations’ history and food cultures.
