Job Vacancy – Bookkeeper for the Bonnington Centre

The Bonnington Centre is seeking a freelance bookkeeper. The successful candidate will be responsible for accurate and timely record-keeping, and reporting and advising the BCCA’s treasurer and trustees. This is a part-time self-employed role, requiring 3 hours per week. 

The BCCA is a community centre and café which provides a mixture of services and activities for our diverse and lively neighbourhood, including rooms for hire at affordable rates, wellbeing and leisure activities, and a vegetarian/vegan café open to the public. It is managed by a group of trustees elected by local members.

Job Description 

  • Job Title: Bookkeeper
  • Salary: £16-£18 per hour
  • Location: Remotely online
  • Reports to: Treasurer and Chair of Trustees 
  • Hours of Work: 3 hours per week
  • Contract: Self Employment

Duties and responsibilities

  • To record financial transactions using QuickBooks or other software;
  • To maintain financial records, working with the Centre Administrator and Café Administrator;
  • To carry out monthly bank reconciliations and provide running totals on request;
  • To supply financial information on specific budgets or projects on request;
  • To assist the Treasurer with their monthly finance report to trustees;
  • To liaise with the accountant, the treasurer, and the trustees to help see through the completion of the annual tax returns and financial submissions;
  • To be aware of the relevant financial regulations and to act in accordance with them. 

 

Bookkeeper: Person Specification (October 2025)

Experience:

Essential:
  • Proven work experience as a bookkeeper, with experience in the voluntary sector;
  • Using accounting, spreadsheet, database and word processing software to keep records and produce reports;
  • Drafting and reviewing budgets.
Desirable:
  • A professional qualification is considered a plus;
  • Experience of using QuickBooks.

Essential Skills:

  • Excellent analytical and numerical skills;
  • An ability to work with strong attention to detail and accuracy;
  • An ability to plan and organise own work, including being able to identify priorities and meet deadlines;
  • An ability to work collaboratively and flexibly to deliver role;
  • An ability to work within policies and practices of the Association;
  • An ability to manage confidential data.
